Who is Bank PO (Manager)

A Bank PO (Probationary Officer) is a managerial-level entry position in the banking industry. A Bank PO is responsible for various administrative and supervisory tasks within a bank. They are recruited through competitive exams conducted by banks or organizations such as the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) in India.

The role of a Bank PO typically involves:

Bank POs undergo a probationary period, usually ranging from 1 to 2 years, during which they receive training and gain practical experience in various banking functions. Upon successful completion of the probation period, they are promoted to higher positions within the bank, such as Assistant Manager or Branch Manager.

Bank PO exams are highly competitive, and candidates are selected based on their performance in written exams, group discussions, and personal interviews. These exams evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, reasoning, general knowledge, and awareness of the banking sector.

Work Life Balance

  • Official timing of Bank Officer is 10 am to 5 pm. Every Sunday and every second and forth Saturday of a month is holiday.
  • Although it is a 10 to 5 job since the position is of responsibility typically Bank staff leaves between 6 pm to 7 pm depending upon how they manage their branch. As per my experience as Branch Manager and experience of my collogues in Pune City area, we were able to manage to leave at 6 pm almost every day.

Salary

  • IBPS PO (PO from any PSB except SBI) receives total benefits of Rs. 10 Lakh to Rs. 12 Lakh per annum.
  • The Gross salary of IBPS PO is Rs. 57000/- along with you get allowances such as rent of Rs. 18000-22000 in major A cities and Petrol and other allowances nearing Rs. 8000 depending you r location where your are placed at.
  • SBI PO receives almost 20% to 30% more salary compared to IBPS PO.
  • RRB PO receives salary at par with IBPS PO.
  • Other benefits such as travel allowance for Tour are similar in all Banks.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Criteria

  • 20 years to 30 years of age.
  • For reservations of different types there is some age relaxations between 3 years to 10 years

Qualification Criteria

  • Graduation from any discipline from a government recognized university or college in India.

Selection Process

Every Year all the PSBs except SBI collectively conduct an exam through IBPS(Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) for selection of Probationary Officer (PO), hence the exam is known as IBPS PO.

SBI conducts its exam separately which is known as SBI PO. As SBI is very large in size, it has almost half the vacancies when compared to vacancies of all PSBs put together.

RRB PO exam is also conducted by IBPS every year. It has state-wise vacancies and is conducted commonly for vacancies of all the RRBs.
